eBay says they have 5.6 million total registered users and added 1.7 million new ones for the quarter. According to the CBS MarketWatch article (assuming a typo), Levitan expected 4.3 million total registrations instead of 5.6 million total registrations.

Levitan was therefore predicting 400,000 new registered users for the quarter for a total of 4.3 million registered users.

Oh well, if you subtract duplicate accounts, maybe Levitan was closer to being right with his initial estimate. Now Levitan gets to say eBay blew away the estimates. If users are registering multiple times, this could help explain why new users aren't as active as in the past.
