<<I surprised an intruder in our home this morning around 5:15 am.>>

That had to be spooky. Glad you and the frau weren't hurt.

We have a couple of inside dogs and that helps us sleep. The sawed off under the bed doesn't hurt either.

You are lucky the intruder didn't shoot you! You need a monitored security system. When you are in the house, you can set what they call, a "permimeter setting". This means that if anyone breaks in while you are in the house, the alarm will go off. If you do not cancel the alarm, the security company will notify the police.

When you set the perimeter setting, you have to remember to disengage the alarm b4 you open the door to retrieve the morning newspaper. Usually, I put a trash can in front of door to remind me that I've set the alarm for the perimeter.
