MPL COMMUNICATIONS Inc.(ASE-MPZ) publisher of ID Online,
Investor's Digest of Canada, The Investment Reporter and other
financial advisory services, announced today it has agreed to
purchase Carlson Online Services Inc., Canada's premier provider
of institutional quality online Canadian public company
information.

Terms of the transaction and purchase price were not disclosed.
The transaction is subject to regulatory and corporate approvals
and satisfactory due diligence.

Carlson Online will become an integral part of MPL's rapidly
growing "online" electronic delivery services that includes
IDOnline.ca, the umbrella name for all of MPL's electronic
delivery services and Canada's major provider of online
independent, high-quality actionable investment advice.

In making the acquisition announcement, Mr. Stephen Pepper,
chairman of MPL, said the acquisition is an important step in the
company's aggressive, online growth strategy. "We at MPL
believe," he said,"that the combined forces of our rapidly
growing IDOnline.ca investment advisory service and Carlson
Online will elevate MPL to a position of dominance in the
delivery of both independent online financial advice and
actionable company financial information to many thousands of
Canadian investors."

Carlson online was founded in January, 1996, by Mr. David Carlson
as a comprehensive Internet resource for investors in Canadian
stocks. It is currently headquartered in Vancouver. At the
completion of the acquisition, Mr. Carlson will move to MPL's
Toronto headquarters to assume a senior position at MPL.

The Carlson site, carlsononline.com, is bi-lingual and each week
up to 70,000 people access the site and benefit from an
institutional-quality alternative to expensive data suppliers.

Mr. Carlson, in welcoming the joining of Carlson and MPL forces,
said, "Now, combined with MPL's advisory information gathering
capabilities our combined services will allow us to deliver,
clear and specific actionable investment advice and information
to all Canadians."

Currently the Carlson site provides advanced screening, up to 25
years of financial statements and ratios, insider trading reports
and compiles the most up-to-date information currently available
on more than 4,200 Canadian public companies. Through a U.S.
affiliate, Wall Street Research Net, Carlson also provides
coverage on American publicly traded companies as well.
