Dan,

Ali agitated a lot of people back then. I think he sort of won them over, when he made it clear tht he was willing to give up everything he had dedicated his entire life to in order to live by his principles. Many did not agree with his pricnicples, but they admired his strength and character. It didn't hurt that he was a tremendous boxer with a razor sharp wit.......

Dan, when Ali was in his prime, he had a home in Houston's River Oaks section (very pricey) and I was on a plane when he came on board with his girlfriend to send her off to New York. The first thing he did was start yelling at all of the cabin crew that he didn't like her accomodations (even though she was in first class) and demanded that her every wish be treated as a command. In other words, he made a complete ass out of himself. TD
