This is a great day to consider where CMGI has been and where it is going.

There are two "types" of CMGI investors:

The first are traders and we all know what they do. They trade based on whatever technicals they follow. When the stock has been weak and begins to move higher, they BUY. When the stock has been strong and begins to fade, they SELL.

The second type buys and holds, riding out the waves and purchasing more when they can.

Both types can win with CMGI. Right now, the traders have sold and some have even shorted the stock. I do not personally believe the rally today and think the stock is going to test the $71 support level. I am NOT saying the stock will go to $71. The technicals I follow indicate we are only mildly oversold in a weak and deteriorating market for internet stocks. Look at the action in EBAY today. Poor.

I also believe this correction in CMGI will last for at least 2 weeks and perhaps as long as 2-3 months. Then, I believe we will see the "mother of all upside runs" in CMGI. This run will take CMGI far past the $171 level and will last 1-2 years. CMGI will trade at over $500/share and perhaps as high as $2000/share pre-split(s).

What will trigger this run? Improving stock market fundamentals, a successful spin off of Alta Vista in January 00, and a spin-off of two Venture concerns into separate companies, partially-owned by CMGI.

Bottom line: If you are a trader it is too early to buy. If you are a buy-and-holder, it is never too early to own CMGI. Over the next 5 years, it will be called the "Microsoft of the internet".
