Hindustan Lever net up 25% on rural thrust

FMCG major - Hindustan Lever clocked 25% growth in the second quarter of the current financial year ending December 1999.

Sales for the quarter stood at Rs 30 bn - a 10% increase over the previous year's quarter. Net profits for the first half of FY2000 grew 25% to Rs 4.4 bn. The board has announced an interim dividend of Rs 12 per share. Growth in the current year for the company has come mainly from rural markets.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Keki Dadiseth, chairman, HLL said that culinary products would be the growth engine for the company. He said that building a strong food business would take time, but ultimately It would be profitable. Among specific initiatives, he said that jams and squashes were being positioned as 'fun food' by the company, he said.
