COM DEV INTERNATIONAL LTD ("CDV-TM") NEWBRIDGE NETWORKS CORP ("NNC-T;NN-BHDNPQX") - SpaceBridge
Introduces Industry's First Universal Modem Solution

SpaceBridge Networks Corporation introduced the industry's first, fully programmable, broadband wireless modem chip set, the
SB7016/SB7040. The chip set provides complete baseband and Intermediate Frequency (IF) functions for access and network products and is
designed for broadband satellite and terrestrial wireless communication applications. The SB7016/7040 forms the core of the SpaceBridge
broadband satellite terminal product line, and is positioned to be sold to other broadband products companies, into the satellite and LMDS
Market.

The SB7016/7040 modem's unique air interface design is fully programmable and can inter-operate with multiple air interface standards and custom broadband wireless systems,
making
it suitable for terminal, gateway or basestation applications.

"Having the ability to vary the parameters associated with the air interface is key to addressing the needs of current and emerging communications systems in a timely manner," said
Mahshad Koohgoli, Vice President of Product Management and CTO of SpaceBridge. The chip set's adaptive air link provides high capacity processing from 16 kbps up to 155 Mbps
with full scalability for next-generation wireless systems. Moreover, the chip set allows operation in TDM, TDMA, MF-TDMA, FDM and FDMA modes. Its generic bus architecture
interfaces seamlessly with processors for cost-effective terminal design. The SB7016/7040's high level of integration provides total ATM, native IP or MPEG transport network
interconnectivity.

The SB7016 universal digital modem allows user selection of various digital signal processing functions, such as modulation format, error control methods and error control polynomials,
scrambling and descrambling functions, and bit rates.

The SB7040 IF chip supports a complete L-band to base band solution, including quadrature modulation and demodulation, up and down conversion with image rejection, and very high
speed integrated convertors.

"The programmable chip set provides a cost-effective, high capacity solution which lets customers take full advantage of emerging multimedia technologies while allowing them to stay
on
top of the ever-changing requirements in the digital communications industry," said Avedis Menechian, President and CEO of SpaceBridge.

According to Pioneer Consulting in their report entitled "Global Broadband Access Markets" issued in October 1998, in the next seven years, the total number of global broadband
access subscribers is estimated at 136 million of which 40 million will be satellite subscribers and the remaining 96 million will be terrestrial based subscribers including LMDS subscribers,
which are estimated at 11 million.
