Ya I think gold deserves a look here. Russia has gold BTW, just no dollars. And the last I checked the Yen was rather strong.

But I think the long bond will stay above 6 % and the market will decline below 10,000 very soon. If the dollar weakens some more, gold will probably strengthen, and we could be looking at a genuine bear market in equities with gold being the safe haven. The FED's statement today on brokerage house Y2K readiness was interesting enough to get people thinking about the exits.

I am long gold, hedged on blue chips, and short inter nuts. No margin debt, of course. Also shorted the high flying dow stocks today with the dow up 150. A rather bearish posture really - '81-'82 last time opened so many shorts. I'm sure half the current players weren't in the game back then.
