Oh, please. Of all the school systems in the D.C. metro area, which includes P.G. county and Montgomery County, Maryland, and Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax County, VA, the only one which is good enough for my kids is Fairfax, and I pay the taxes necessary to get it.

When I was thinking of moving back before my son finished school, I looked into the state of the schools. There are some good public schools, mainly in Northwest. The biggest problem is that the middle class has tended to flee the burgeoning taxes and deteriorating services, and this includes the black middle class. Many of the more affluent send their children to private schools, and therefore there is an inordinately high representation of poor children in the school system. However, this is not so unusual for urban school districts....
