Commerce One, Concur, Clarus, Captura, Extensity in Ariba's space. Chemdex came public today in the health care portal space. They are all over and many more to come public.

Well Ariba just got Worldcom to toss Commerce One Software out for Ariba. The rich get richer.

Ariba is starting to get interesting price-wise. I was thinking the low would be in the 60s where I will pick some up, now I'm not so sure. On b-2-b public companies, some were listed such as extensity that are weaker versions of Ariba, imo (so don't bother)... however, coming down the train are the new enterprise webapp companies which look good - the first ones are HRIS, this is where software runs on the vendors site and the functionality is completely outsourced, with a transaction fee schedule. If you go to the red herring, just look at their top 100 private companies, you'll see them there. Ariba being manufacturing doesn't have this option, since mfg is too difficult for outsourcing... so Ariba is more of a software than web company, which is not ideal since software implementations and customizations impede growth.
