When I said slander, I was not talking about matters of faith .... When I speak of false teaching, it is in regard to the bible. If you choose to believe that the Pope teaches God's message or is a prophet, that is up to you, I can't doubt you faith or conviction in that regard. I can only point out that what the Pope teaches is at times different from the bible. I have directed my comments to what the bible says. But when I talk about slander, I mean actual lies, in a non-religious context. 1. The Christian church was sanctioned by God, not Catholicism, -What became the catholic church emerged after the apostles died and the prophesied apostacy entered the christian congregation. But of course that is a matter of faith and another argument for another day. 2. Jesus does not have authority over God, nobody does. Jehovah is the supreme and universal sovereign. Jesus was given his authority by Jehovah, he does the will of his father. John 5:19 "Most truly I say to you, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the father doing. For what ever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner." also: Luke 22:42; John 5:30; 3. We do not borrow any teaching. We read the bible, that is the sole source of our religion. As to the matter of control, that is an unfair statement. Jehovah's witnesses are organized by a benevolent organization. All the work and activity we do is done on a volunteer basis. NOBODY receives economic or social rewards for the work that is done. Our ministers are not paid anything, they each support themselves with secular work in addition to the many hours they spend working for the congregation. There is no motivation to control people. We do not involve ourselves in any politics. Christ is our savior, on the basis of the ransom sacrifice that he presented to Jehovah when he returned to heaven. 4a. As an organization, many corrections have been made. No secret is made of that. We endeavor to understand the prophesies found in the bible so as to be prepared for the proper action at the proper time. This is not contrary to what the bible teaches. Proverbs 4:18; "But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established." 4b. God's unchanging truth is found in the bible. As I stated, at times it in necessary to adjust a teaching if it is found not to be in line with the bible. An example of this would be the celebration of easter and christmas. There was a time that Jehovah's Witnesses once celebrated these holidays. It was discovered that these holidays, as previously discussed, are rooted in ancient pagan rituals. Thus a change was made. The message of God's Kingdom has always been the same. We do not try and hide what was once taught vs what is taught now. Instead we often use the comparison as a teaching tool. How can we trust what is being taught is true? Because we are all engaged in a rigorous bible education program that allows us the opportunity to decide for ourself based upon the evidence presented in the bible. We encourage people to read the bible, and make their own choices. I hasten to add that the changes that have been made have been minor corrections in previously held understanding of the scripture. Our organization is dynamic, it moves forward in understanding and revealing bible truth. 6. The Earth will never be destroyed or depopulated!! That is true, based upon the bible account. Ecclesiastes 1:4 " A generation is going and a generation is coming, but the earth is standing even to time indefinite." Psalm 104:5 " He has founded the earth upon its established places, It will not be made to totter to time indefinite or forever." The account in revelation speaks of the coming war of Armageddon. Tell me where you think that it says the earth and ALL its inhabitants are to be wiped out. Jehovah has wrought judgment on mankind before (the flood), but he still allowed the righteous to survive. But let me know what scripture you mean otherwise I can only guess, and that is not good enough. Some New Testiment scriptures you may find interesting: Matthew 5:5 "Happy are the mild-tempered ones since they will inherit the earth." 2 Peter 3:13; "There are a new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell." (also see Revelation 21:3-4)
