27-Jul-99 14:46:39 Micron Technology has popped up 10% today, bolstered by an overall recovery in the tech sector. An upgrade of INTC by SG Cowen helped further propel the Semiconductors higher. Amidst a period of sell-offs in technology stocks, MU closed down in six of the past eight days. Volume is significantly above average in today's session, with over 6.5 million shares traded compared to the average trading volume of 4 million shares per day. Sixty-five percent of the current volume is attributable to block trades, indicating institutional investors are driving the rebound. Investors have bid the stock up $5 9/16 to $57 9/16. Likewise, MU's peers are also trading higher: TXN has gained $7 ¼ to trade at $142 ½, AMAT is up $2 9/16 to $71 15/16, and INTC is $4 1/8 higher to $67. Momentum for the stock is clearly on the side of buyers as the I-Watch chart illustrates that sellers have offered resistance throughout the session. The significant amount of stock offered on the sell- side has done little to counter the wave of demand coming from the bidders today. Watch for increased volatility going into the close as day traders square away positions and bulls look to shore-up their purchases.
