Comment on Cohen's remarks:

"But merely managing the consequences of an attack is not
sufficient. We must be vigilant in seeking to interdict and defeat
the efforts of those who seek to inflict mass destruction on us.
This will require greater international cooperation, intelligence
collection abroad and information gathering by law enforcement
agencies at home. Information is clearly power, and greater access
to information will require the American people and their elected
officials to find the proper balance between privacy and
protection.

There need be no fear or foreboding by the American people of the
preparations of their government. On the contrary, the greater
threat to our civil liberties stems from the chaos and carnage that
might result from an attack for which we had failed to prepare and
the demands for action that would follow."

So now according to Ken, everyone should head to the hills because the US is vulnerable to biological/chemical terrorism???

A contented life is far more important to me than a lengthy one in which everyday I cringed in sheer panic about the possibilities of a biological/chemical terrorist attack.

We know when Y2K is coming, so any disruptions will not be a major surprise.

But NO ONE KNOWS when or where a WMD terrorist attack can occur.

But it certainly justifies taking steps to prepare yourself as best you can for such an event, like getting your Anthrax vaccinations, practicing moving around in your chemical proof clothing (what the military refers to as MOPP, or "Mission Oriented Protective Posture"), which btw, is only effective for no more than 13 hours in a slightly contaminated area.

So if Ken wants to live the rest of his life in terror, that's his choice.

I got better things to do.

And I imagine most everyone else does as well.

I can thankfully say that because I don't know of too many people who have spent the last 40 years in a daily state of panic over the fact that civilization could end in the 30 minutes (or less) it takes for an ICBM to deliver its warheads to their targets.

How about it Ken... do you have a year's supply of MOPP suits and gas mask filters too?? How about a year's supply of decontamination kits?? Got any Atropine?? Do you know how to use it??

Do you know how to drink out of a canteen when you're in a contaminated environment?? How to go to the "potty" (its a two person activity... :0)??

Are you walking around everyday of your life in a MOPP-3 posture (mask handy, chemical suit on, but jacket unzipped... and your booties tied tight)???

Nooo???

And you call yourself prepared??? LMAO!!!!!

Btw, those signs you all are referring to... Has it ever crossed anyone's mind that they are not necessarily for Y2K related operations?? They just might be for in the event of having to evacuate an entire city due to a biological attack.

ONE THAT CAN HAPPEN TONIGHT, TOMORROW, OR 10 YEARS FROM NOW

Are you prepared??

Btw, Something tells me that Ken is probably the life of the party at social occasions.... <VBG>

Regards,

Ron

Self-Assessment Tool Kit for International Y2K Readiness

ecommerce.gov

This was put together by KPMG Peat-Marwick and passed out at the UN Y2K meeting earlier this month.

Please pass around the link to anyone oversees that is looking for a resource. This is the template for cross-border Y2K assessment between countries.

Iow, this is the straight "sheet" that people talk about when they refer to being on the same "sheet of music".

All APEC nations will hopefully be calling the same tune come Sept with regard to how they analyzed and assessed their Y2K status and vulnerabilities.

Feel free to peruse and make recommendations. I'll pass them on to the pertinent people.

Regards,

Ron
