Opened a small position in AMZN today just before close. Short at 101. Reasons:

1) Dropped today on high vol

2) If AMZN hasn't been making a profit as a first-mover, how is it going to justify its market cap now that it faces competition?

3) Wanted a short to contrast with my long positions in INTC and MSFT

As Bill Gates said recently on the subject of Net stock valuations 'We will look back on these times and say, "Well, wasn't that obvious? I should have shorted that stock."'

I actually like AMZN. I live in the UK and can buy books from Amazon and pay to have them shipped for less than what they cost in the shops here. And I know the books will be in stock. I buy a lot of books from Amazon and each time I buy one, Amazon loses a little bit more money.

Doesn't seem to be much discussion of AMZN's fundamentals on this board today - I'd love to know more about the company's prospects. Also looking for other net stocks to short as well/instead

RE: He has basically said, "I will not be there to bail out your speculative play things, and I might raise rates just to flush them out". Smart people have been leaving the casino. Thugs have started to move in and eye the hapless net investors, drunk with easy success and conditioned to buy the dips

Greenspan is now Elliot Ness??

Wow! That's a mouthful GST. I thought you were referring to the market in general. I didn't realize you were referring only to the Inets with regards to your money flow scenario.

So. The scenario is the "market can soar" but the Inets will tank.

Is this your current thinking?
