Seriously though, yes, you are "nuts", not for buying puts or being bearish, but for not giving yourself enough time IMO, because there is a chance that the next real bear market will not arrive until next late winter or spring sometime. I have lost some fairly large amounts of money in the past by being right on the direction, but not giving myself enough time to see it through. 80% of my long put purchases these days is for expiration dates at least one year or longer, so if I'm wrong, there is plenty of time left to recover. But even then one still loses every so often. Going long index puts is one of the toughest games in "market town" for the last nine years or so... Yogi
