Yzfool,

If one has enough cash to convert your margined shares to your cash account, that would benefit long NITE positions in 2 ways:

1. Margin call selling will be reduced (however, margin sellers usually are selling BECAUSE they don't have the cash anyway).

2. More importantly the margined shares will no longer be available for shorting. If this can be done en masse, there is the potential to cause shorts to cover.

You can accomplish the same by calling in your share certificates and that will take your shares out of supply for shorting because they can't be borrowed.

I was on a message board (Yahoo's OMKT) earlier this year and the posters launched a "call in your cert's" drive to create a short squeeze as the stock had been heavily shorted. Needless to say, the stock went up about 16% the following few days. Whether or not there was a one-to-one correlation with the calling of the certs, I don't know, but it was a strong unifying point on an otherwise unpleasant board.
