John,

I don't know enough about INTC's pilot fab status to be able to come up with an accurate or nearly so guess.

I believe with greenfield fabs, that the Equipment usually goes in while the clean room is being built; and that could be as much as 6-9 months before it's powered on for the first test wafer to be put through the line.

I would guess that INTC probably has a dedicated R&D facility that would permit them to periodically add / move / change / or otherwise replace equipment in the pilot facility. But I know of no way of verifying what their process is. Further, for the pilot, I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 units of each device to be shipped to INTC within the next year for shootout purposes.

In the conference call, I thought Brad made some comment about cracking the INTC nut this year when he was talking about Strip and just after he mentioned the last market share numbers.
If so, that implies that INTC already has a strip unit, and has probably had it for some time.

It would be nice to have the facts rather than trying to extrapolate from little snippets.

Ian.

Nice find, courtesy of BK on the LRCX thread...

...Michael is bullish in the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment area. He is holding companies such as Lam Research (LRCX 40 3/4) and Applied Materials (AMAT 65 3/4). He has been moving money out of larger companies in that space and has been moving it into the smaller names such as Mattson Technology (MTSN 11 7/8), which is one of his favorite small cap companies in the semiconductor area. ...
