I have a new issue w/MSFT and their "fine" products:
whenever I open Excel and then open Explorer (which I rarely do, because it's garbage...but my office intranet only works on IE), my Excel tool bars and menus vanish and are replaced by the Explorer tool bar and menu. After I close IE, they remain. I have to shut down Excel to get my screen back properly.
Looks like a winner....

AAPL is safer with IBM's G3 at 580 mz v MOT's G4 with new AltVec code

Watson your article noted MOT went off the PowerPC path with AltiVec, parting from IBM's formula "process the same mess but do it faster" . Ironically INTC followed this rule (X86) better than IBM .

AAPL can't risk its future on a developmental product (G4 AltiVec) . My guess is AAPL is now pressuring "AIM" partner IBM to embrace AltiVec . AAPL can wait as little demand exists for the G4 without a AAPL optimized OS.

However with a faster G3 AAPL could improve revenues with established code . At Seybold 8/30/99 , where INTC is a competitor , it's hoped AAPL's S Jobs will demo a faster G3 (450--> 580mz by IBM's SOI process) .

My guess is the AIM partnership has matured AAPL into performing a delicate ballet between two self-serving elephants .

PS A Alpha chip made by IBM for CPQ could negatively impact INTC and MSFT server products .
