Mohan:
It is to Vajpayee's credit that he has told Dilip Kumar to ignore Thackeray and to follow his own conscience. But the episode -- as indeed, the manner in which Dilip Kumar has been made to pay for being a Muslim throughout his life -- shames us all as Indians. If this is how we treat Dilip Kumar, who in the world will believe us when we say that we treat our Muslims well?

Good article. Where did this much ballyhooed Hindu tolerance go?. A few bad apples make it all bad for the whole country.
Thanks for this article.

Mohan - here is teh comment i sent in to the author.

Although I compelment the author for the article, I think he has put his own
spin on the events.

The events are basically a ganster taking revenge on someone who does
not respect him. The fact that Dilip Kumar is a muslim is secondary since
he would get similar treatment even if he was a Hindu.

I think the author's words would find a better target if he were to attack the
'goondagiri' of the Thackrey and the Shiv Sena which has not only
attacked the muslims but also the sindhis, gujratis and malayalees.
