Karen,

It's interesting that you say "well-read" people are basically yawning about Y2K. I sure wish I had a crystal ball. I think my biggest fear is the nuclear issue, this is going to be an all or nothing event, total disaster or a blip on the screen.

I think the stock market could get ugly as William thinks, but there is to much retirement money pouring into it to keep it down for to long. I guess I am actually trying to time the market, which actually goes against all my basic principles concerning investing. But paranoia can do that sometimes.

Mike

Karen- >>I made this the topic of water-cooler conversation today at the office, asked a number of bright, well-read people what they were planning for Y2K. Business as usual, one and all.<<
Maybe they are not "well read" on Y2K ! But it shouldn't surprise you... many people I respect simply refuse to think about it... preferring the "misery loves company" excuse and seemingly feeling better knowing everyone will be in same boat. I don't think my minor preparation suggestions were radical Karen- my idea is simply if things are bad but fixable I hope to be less miserable than the masses and if Ken's nightmares come true then no amount of preparing would be enough and I don't lose sleep over that. Also you don't know how many people will not admit around the water cooler to anything yet may have more than my modest suggestions !
