I got the same impression that it is a little bit too late for big companies to kick-off the competition for Exds. However, what I heard is slightly different.

I was told that you can buy servers hardware and software from any providers, such as sunw, ibm, hwp, cpq(digital & tandem), dell, msft, emc and orcl, and set it up at Exds's data centers. These big guys are actually supporting exds very well, and some of them even recommend you to put your web toys at exds.

There is also one thing that can not be overlooked. As you know, ebay is primarily using Exds to host their web site, and ebay's site was catastrophically went down a few times recently. Did you notice that the news releases for ebay's crashing was only related to ebay and sunw. No one has ever pointed the fingure on exds. I was confused at that time. However, my friend confirmed to me that exds has nothing to do with the crashing since exds is not owning ebay's servers or running ebay's software. Based on this, I was quite amazed by the business model that created by exds. It is really very smart and creative.
