Go2Net Hires Eric Zocher as Executive Vice President, Managing Director Of Broadband SEATTLE, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Go2Net, Inc. (Nasdaq: GNET - news), a network of branded, technology- and community-driven Web sites ( go2net.com ), has hired Eric Zocher as executive vice president and managing director of broadband. Zocher, who brings Go2Net more than 15 years of executive leadership experience in the Internet and software industries, will head the company's emerging broadband content division.
Zocher is former president of Netbot, Inc., developers of the Internet's first shopping agent, Jango, which was acquired by Excite, Inc. in 1997. During his subsequent tenure as manager of Excite's Seattle office, he directed the integration of Netbot and Excite, building significant expertise in the Internet portal sector and related technology issues. Prior to Netbot/Excite, Zocher was vice president of engineering for Adobe Systems, where he was responsible for the worldwide development and delivery of more than 20 major software product releases, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, PageMaker and Premiere. In the process, he grew Adobe's applications business from $50 million to $600 million in annual revenue. The first developer to put digital sound into a microcomputer product, Zocher has also held senior positions at Silicon Beach Software and NeXT Computer.
''Eric brings Go2Net an exceptional record of innovation, industry leadership and achievement,'' said Russell C. Horowitz Go2Net, Chief Executive Officer. ''He deepens our executive and technology teams considerably and will play a prominent role in the extension of Go2Net's services for delivery over a variety of broadband media. We're looking forward to applying Eric's expertise toward our development of products and services that will establish Go2Net as one of the leading networks in the broadband world.''
Under a March 15 agreement with Vulcan Ventures, Inc., Paul Allen's investment organization, Go2Net will work with Allen's affiliated cable companies to provide those companies' subscribers with access to Go2Net's portal services and content. Allen's cable assets currently represent the nation's 4th largest cable operation. Zocher will work closely with Go2Net's chief technology officer, Dr. Oren Etzioni, to continue building the company's broadband division and to direct the development and integration of Go2Net's Web services and technologies with Vulcan Ventures' rapidly growing cable infrastructure.
As co-founder and vice president of engineering for Silicon Beach Software, Zocher supervised the development of more than 15 products as the new company grew from a handful of dedicated pioneers to employ nearly 80 people. Before being acquired by Aldus Corporation in 1990, Silicon Beach achieved a series of firsts, including the development of software plug-ins, an idea that Zocher went on to perfect at Adobe Systems in products such as Adobe Photoshop.
