People try to predict the future with limited success, but to me the way the government and people in power try to create and regulate the present, as in today and tomorrow, tells me that they have very limited success in understanding the past, as in history, as in what did and did not work. But maybe thats a wrong view, as most who try to predict the future based on understanding the present, in that they fail to understand the motives and purpose of those who control what happens in our future. Or to put it another way, those who created our present economic situation had a different agenda that the one most people think they had. Its as simple as cause and effect, what we have was caused by ? The effect is all around us and exist with no illusions, except those that most people create to explain what they understand as causing the present economic system. It can be as simple as saying that those who we elected to regulate and run our government and economy are controled and motivated not by the words and promises they made, but by that simple desire to do whats needed to get re-elected, and that in big part is decided by the powerful lobbying groups that then decide how much money a politican gets to run his or her next campaign. So who decides what gets done in government ? The politicans we elected write the laws and set policy, but in 95% of the time its for the re-election of themselves, or the Party or lobby or special interests or payback for a favor, and on and on. Seems to me that 95% of the decisions made by all government are controled by 5% of their citizens who have the money for their re-election. But we all know this, its on the news, over and over, year after year. Nothing wrong with outer space exploration and putting that tool onto Mars, great adventure and feel good and showing the USA flag and technology. But the average citizen might wonder why $Billions are spent on this type of stuff that can be done later, as in after the interstructure of USA of the bad road and old crumbling bridges and schools needing repair are done. The TV newsperson will not complain, as it extertaining news and get big rating as the Mars trip was showned live. Feel good time, aka money for the news people on TV via commericals. Real reason for Mars space trip verse local road + bridge fixed ? Politician gets big money from space related big companies doing the actual build and make outer space stuff, thru their lobby efforts. And your 10 person hometown contractor to fix you local street and bridge does not pump money into the politician next election was chest. Nothing wrong with money. How its used is another issue. Doug
