I certainly didn't think I was doing any "ted bashing"--at least I didn't intend to. I did say that I enjoyed your posts and only that you were wrong sometimes. It gets too boring when everybody on the thread is in agreement and IMHO somebody needs to play devil's advocate.

Regarding the Sony rumor, it just doesn't make sense to me. It seems like the day of vertical integration in the Japanese electronics companies is fading. More and more of them are outsourcing portions of their semiconductor development rather than going the other way and making acquisitions. I don't foresee Sony bucking that trend because I don't see how owning CRUS would give them that big of an advantage over simply purchasing CD/DVD/MP3 controller chips from CRUS. CRUS doesn't have any great patents relevant to MP3 (that I'm aware of) at the level that Sony deals with (the board/system level). The heart of the Crystal patent portfolio is in delta-sigma A/D conversion, which wouldn't have a whole lot of direct value to Sony. CRUS would have more value to a mainstream large semiconductor operation that is looking to expand its mixed-signal capabilities.

G.P.
