Hello Stephen, and thanks for the kind words.

I don't know if you or others here have been experiencing brownouts on SI, but I have... to the tune of ten and twenty minutes at a time when all other sites that I access are doing fine. Anyway...

...my point about legacy switch providers was moderately tongue in cheek and I attempted to amend my post through editing it (but I got shut out), since I do believe that Nortel, aided greatly by Bay, and the slow ascent (pun intended) of LU to meet next gen IP dictates, are as you say becoming quite formidable in the new optical/IP space.

Although, I think that LU has a great deal of ground to catch up on, in the "classical" IP space, where CSCO knows no meaningful competition for the moment (especially in the ISP space), but this might in some ways be neutralized through their DWDM prowess, as IP over lambda becomes more prevalent at the next plateau. But this is not clear to me at this time, because one of the upstarts in this regime like Montery, Pluris, MRV, or Corvis, and some of the others could come in and quickly steal some share at various solution points. If not as individual entities, then certainly in aggregate, until they are either acquired or otherwise subsumed in some fashion. Enjoy your vacationing in Maine... that sounds like a superb idea!

Regards, Frank Coluccio
