I have just been watching the Geenspan testimony to the Senate
Humphrey-Hawkins committee and one of the Senators (?) who chairs the
Y2K committee stated that 9 of the 39 industrialized nations surveyed
were at medium to high risk of experiencing failures in telcomm, energy
and water. In addition 52 of the 68 developing nations had a similar
high levels of risk of breakdowns in these sectors and refereed to the
latest Merrell Lynch study where they talk about a major liquidity
problem arising in certain parts of the world because of the Y2K
problem.
