Hey Eric you wrote something very intelligent in your last post. From an engineering perspective, if you try to get the grips of all technical details of any component of todays fast changing networks, you would be lost. Considering that any piece of advanced communication gear has a thousand engineers' hours, it would be not very sensible to try to understand all of it. Years ago, when a technology was good enough for 15 years -say FDM multiplexing or crossbar switches- you would have time enough to know all about it. Not anymore. Not with today's technology. We guys, who come from the analog world, and bridged into the digital world, know just the path that leads to the deep. It's enough. We know that is necessary to see through the smokescreen. Who the hell would ever call PSTN voice-over-SS7.
