Bear in mind that the Slashdot audience probably doesn't have much to do with Red Hat's financial future, at least not directly. These are folks who most likely download the OS for free, don't need formal support, and a lot of them may well be hormonally imbalanced teenagers. :-) On a Slashdot poll in February, ( slashdot.org ) the majority of readers were in the 18-23 year old category.

Most of the resentment about the IPO letter is a result of inexperience and misunderstanding. Witness the comment from the person who "begged borrowed and stole" to get $1.5k together for 100 shares, and then was surprised that he got screened out by E*Trade. Or the person who complained that Red Hat "dangled money in front of my face" only to have it yanked away in the E*Trade screening process. There's a certain naivete about the IPO process, to say the least.
