AM, thanks for that, certainly the XAU components are among the larger gold mining companies around. It does illustrate how small the ratio is between the gold stocks and the overall mkt capitalization.

Come on guys, for just a few billion more you could pick up Yahoo! - market cap $29B - instead of a bunch of rummy gold companies for $23.4B

Or, for a mere $25B you could pick up those 2 paragons of capitalism, EBAY and Priceline.com - why bother having to dig all of that worthless gold out of the ground when you can print money (or better yet, sell shares to a bunch of suckers) selling beanie babies and airline tickets?

If you had $25B and actually had to buy an entire company in the real world - as opposed to buying a few "shares" based on "those funny looking lines" as my 4 year old calls them - which would you rather buy? Call me old-fashioned but I'll take the gold companies for $23.4B any day.
