What I find amusing is how a number of a well-known companies hint at their potential earnings to analysts, who produce a lower figure, then the company announces better than expected earnings and the stock has an upsurge in volume and price, with shares being sold by the analyst's employer at a brokerage, out of their inventory.

Of course, if you look at the actual dollar value of the earnings of a lot of companies, they are nothing to be proud of, despite beating the analysts' estimates...
