I Hesitate To Post This, But...

Here goes anyway. It's a link to a conference presentation given by an IBM researcher back in May of 1998. As far as what he says about trusted systems (or, as he insists in a fit of semantic overkill, TRUSTWORTHY systems), I'll just tell you that it's highly unlovable. But,as you read it, you will see that several obstacles that he raises have been overcome. And, I think, there is some insight provided here into at least part of IBM's thinking... thinking that, I gather, has changed. Plus, another thing to keep in mind, is that this paper is about a particular type of transaction... involving digital libraries. Further, note his remarks about DVD. Enough for the caveats, here's the link...

There is, of course, the chance that this will be replayed to us all by the short-strokers. So be it... I think we've proved our mettle. And, personally, I always find it helpful to see this kind of stuff... because it familiarizes me with the shape of argument that smarter shorters could possibly make. (But, to repeat, so much has changed since this article... and so much has moved in WAVX's direction... that much of what this fellow says is now moot.)

Best Regards,

c m
