>>>AMTD is doomed because they won't be able to offer online banking as part of the package<<<

Spy, I am a e-trade shareholder and a AMTD user through accutrade. Anyway, the AMTD ceo is on the board of Netbank, the other major Internet Bank. Your statement is naive and has no basis. I'm Not trying to offend you but you might as well say they are going out of business next week too.

MENLO PARK, Calif., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Setting the stage for a new era in customer convenience and electronic empowerment, E*TRADE(R) Group Inc. (Nasdaq: EGRP) today announced that Governor Gray Davis on Tuesday signed into law an E*TRADE-sponsored bill (Senate Bill 1124) enabling customers to use digital signatures to enter into agreements with their brokerage companies. E*TRADE intends to move quickly to implement digital signatures for customer account transfers, margin agreements and, eventually, real-time account opening.

SB 1124, which enables broker-dealers to recognize contracts with electronic signatures as legally enforceable documents, is among the first legislation of its kind to be passed and signals a major accomplishment in the ongoing delineation between online and traditional brokers. With the legislation in place, E*TRADE can leverage its investments in leading-edge technology to further establish its role as a leader in electronic personal financial services.
