The deal that fell through was with sempra energy as I recall. I picked up a pretty hefty position on the collapse figuring that the assets would attract some interest. It wasn't a long wait, though the deal for accounting reasons was done as a KNE purchase of Kinder. The net effect, though, was to get rid of the ceo at KNE whose rep with the street and nearly every one else was nadda. Kinder's balance sheet is pretty spiffy which goes some distance towards helping out the big hurt which was KNE finances. Selected asset sales have further improved that picture and the street looks to be pretty gung-ho.

Disclosure -- I bought and sold for the short-term trade, but have kept my "free" shares.
