78% of what time? The market does not go up 3 out of 4 days.

I think your point pertains to timing. That is, staying invested when the long-term probabilities favor increases in stock prices. If you would rather ride out a bear market than attempt to time exit and entry points, that's OK and is better than exiting and re-entering at inopportune moments.

Myself, I will not ride out a bear market but will try to cash in on both the eventual slide in the market (I've been net short the market since 7/16) and the eventual recovery.

re: Just like at the race track I like to think that what I do with my investment portfolio differs significantly from what I do at the race track.
