My interpretation of the poem has everything to do with my past, including the guy who attacked me, shoved me into the street and took off with my purse. You know I could have remained angry and upset for a very long time. I didn't.

A passage from another poem by Oliver reminded me of the death of JFK and his wife. I didn't think about Kennedy's death when I read the poem, but I thought about that passage last week when a PBS interviewer talked to a journalist about young John F. Kennedy's life.

I meant to post it on the JFK thread but haven't got around to doing it.
