One only has to look towards today's opening of Drugstore.com to see that there may not be much confidence that the internet will be a successful marketing tool for medical and pharmacy oriented products.

Sure, DSCM pre-open demand was high. Originally priced in a $9-11 range, repriced into the $15-17 range, final pricing at $18 and a market open today at a whopping $68. Sounds like strong demand.

But, check where it closed --- 50 1/4. Sure, that's a heck of premium for a first day of trading, but the weak close and a very hefty loss from the open indicates there are many more sellers than buyers for Drugstore.com. Makes one wonder if alot of people jumped ship with their one day profit knowing the future may not be as bright as many believe.

Let's check back on Drugstore.com in a week or two and see how much lower it trades. It's not the opening price that counts, it's how many people dump their shares into that opening that shows the real strength (or weakness) of an IPO.

Eric is correct. Too many competitors for too few revenue sources will make this field very difficult for 99.99% of these new companies.
