<<It has been my experience, in the places where I have lived, that the local Democrats were more concerned with the well-being of children, the elderly, and finding solutions to welfare, by giving people training and skills to be self-supporting rather than being a burden to the government.>>

You have had the exact opposite experience from mine. The dems here do nothing to promote personal or parental responsibility and have consistently fought in favor of generational welfare. They take the "It Takes a Village" approach where government should be responsible for everything. They coddle bad teachers in public schools because they don't want to upset their teachers union money. There is no regard paid to the welfare of the children. And they do nothing for the elderly.

I suspect if your area is different, it is the only such area in the country.
