But Charles, don't you know? PC's are cheaper, so Sun must be overvalued now!

Dear Charles: Presuming your MATH is correct etc. (I didnt check it) that really is astounding. When you say SUNW is undervalued compared to the AVERAGE statistics of the S&P that makes it even more astounding. I think most of us here would agree that while all S&P 500 Corporations are big and powerful SUNW stands above the average of the rest in future potential. JDN

charles, while i agree w. u that sunw PEG is undervalued but it's supposed to be that way. one is taking an individual stock risk besides the stock market risk.

if u invest in spy ur only taking mrkt risk. there for spy is more safer and thus allowed a higher PEG.

the thing to look is the ratio of these two pegs normally.

i.e. if sunw peg is normally 1.9 and mrkt peg is 2.3 then if
both pegs fall u migh look at how much more sunw peg drops and then u might find it's proper undervalue.

what ever... some times we analalyze till we are paralized and u take a stock like drugstore.com and people make 200% etc.

Inflationary trends in the market may also reduce tolerance for higher PE stocks. Also traditionally a PE of 70 for an iron vendor would be considered very high; considering IBM,HWP are ~36.

For an *interesting* perspective on market direction check this out:

I think you'd need a year over year to have a meaningful comparison, Charles.
