Embedded Memory Technology Drives Winners From Dell, IBM, NEC and Toshiba

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- NeoMagic Corporation (Nasdaq: NMGC), the pioneer of embedded memory and logic technology and the leading producer of single-chip multimedia accelerators, announced today that five of the top six notebook PCs picked for Editors' Choice awards in the August 1999 issue of PC Magazine, incorporate NeoMagic multimedia accelerators. The Dell Latitude CPt C400GT, the IBM ThinkPad 570, and the IBM ThinkPad 600E use the popular MagicMedia(TM) 256-bit multimedia accelerator. The NEC Versa Note and the Toshiba Portege 3020CT run the MagicGraph(R) 128XD multimedia accelerator.

NeoMagic accelerators dominated the Mini-notebook, Thin & Light Mainstream category appearing in 13 of the 18 notebook PCs reviewed. Editors' Choice awards for the Mini-notebook category included the Dell Latitude CPt C400GT (weighing 6.5 pounds), the IBM ThinkPad 570 (weighing 4 pounds), and the Toshiba Portege 3020CT (weighing 3 pounds).

The IBM ThinkPad 600E (weighing 5.6 pounds) was a winner in the Mainstream Desktop Replacement category and the NEC Versa Note (weighing 6.4 pounds) was the pick for the Desktop Replacement Value category. NeoMagic accelerators appeared in twenty-four of the fifty-four notebook PCs reviewed in the August issue.

PC Magazine editors said an honorable mention went to the Sony VAIO PCG-Z505SX in the thin and light category. And noted that the IBM ThinkPad iSeries 1412 stands out in the Value machines category with "its performance ranked among the top."

"Top-quality components, including a fast IBM 4.5GB hard disk and NeoMagic MagicMedia256AV graphics accelerator, powered the [IBM ThinkPad] iSeries 1412 to an impressive ranking on our performance tests," said the review on page 204.

"NeoMagic continues to deliver technology that combines the highest performance, lowest power, and smallest size in a single-chip solution for thin and light mobile computers," said Ron Jankov, senior vice president and general manager of NeoMagic's Multimedia Products Division. "The Editors' Choice awards demonstrate once again that our embedded memory and logic integration delivers a performance advantage for OEM manufacturers wanting to deliver thinner and lighter notebooks for every category of portable PC."

vincenzo posts. Yes, this is a good sign. It's almost like you live close enough to Neo and regularly peek in the windows of the R&D team like a peeping dung-beetle, there to confirm your suspicions. :o) My eyes are "OPEN WIDE SHUT" waiting for the suspense! This stale piece of dung that's rolled up in the corner might finally flower soon. :)

Atlanta Madness
I have been watching with deep sorrow the tragedy in Atlanta. Senseless violence is always tragic. However, watching CNBC coverage of the event and listening to ignorant and self-serving reporters speak of subjects (daytrading) as if they knew something about it, is revolting. The attack on Harvey during his interview was disgusting. This man has done more for all small traders than anyone in history. I trade on an Alltech floor every day and the training and support that I received and still receive everyday is tremendous. Trading is a business and there is always a period of learning and adjustment. You invest in yourself as you would in any business. My deepest sympathies for all the families involved in this incident.
