Just in Case?...As you may have seen, four AOL exec's sold close to 4 million shares of their holdings yesterday morning.  The $400 million dollar question is why do this directly before the San Francisco Board of Supervisors was to vote on "open access" for Internet providers over the ATT/TCI/@Home cable lines?    Possibly they did it just in Case.  As it turns out, the SF Supes voted to grant ATT/TCI the cable franchise in Bhagdad by the Bay without the requirement to open the system to rival Internet providers such as AOL.  Of course the AOL party line is that these are normal stock sales done for personal financial planning reasons.   Given the drop in the stock over the last two days, seems to us that's about 40 million reasons (give or take a few million reasons).  Anecdotally, AOL chairman Steve Case has offered to buy 41% of the Maui Land and Pineapple Company for about $40 million.  ML&P is one of the largest real estate owners in Case's home state of Hawaii.  As we have pointed out before, here is yet another case of Internet dollars being traded for real assets.  Thank you investors of America for so justly enriching Mr. Case and friends.  We can see it now - free pineapples with each new AOL sign-up.   Watch out ATT, the Internet-pineapple marketing war is about to get underway.

Looks like the ECI lived up to my fears. Now let's see if Bob's expectation will come through with his suggestion of no bear starting in July which now amounts to today and tomorrow. If the stock market can shake off much of this bond market problem and approach the area of the July 16th highs we may be well positioned for a bear call. I hope I don't end up regretting closing my
Ultabear partial hedge the other day
