TV Guide Says Source Media Venture Clouded by Patent Problems

Tulsa, Oklahoma, July 29 (Bloomberg) -- TV Guide Inc., owner
of the top weekly television listings publication, said it
discovered problems with Source Media Inc.'s patents for
interactive television, and that a joint venture between the
companies may not proceed.
TV Guide said in February that it would take a 6.2 percent
stake in Source Media and that the two companies would develop
cable and satellite-television services.
TV Guide President Peter Boylan said that his company
discovered problems with Source Media's transfer of patents from
Canada during due diligence and that the joint venture may not be
feasible because of that issue. Source Media legal counsel
Maryann Walsh said that the company doesn't have any problems
with its patents.
Source Media is based in Dallas, and TV Guide is based in
Tulsa, Oklahoma.
