Scumbria - Re: "Every once in a while a really big event happens in the CPU business. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what is happening here."

It appears that AMD with the K7 has a processor that will outperform the top offering from Intel by some margin, probably by about 10% but perhaps 20% or more. And it appears that AMD can manufacture the processor. This presents a window of opportunity for AMD before Intel responds.

However, AMD is now in the position where no infrastructure is available for the K7 wjen it is introduced. Assuming, that AMD can supply K7 chipsets until others get up to speed, a supply of motherboards is also needed. Here, AMD is relying on third party suppliers to introduce new technology and they may not perform on time.

All these factors must align for AMD to succeed in this window of opportunity. And that is "what is happening here" for all to see.
