2 Mediolanum<MED.MI>shares jump on E*Trade news

MILAN, July 29 (Reuters) - Shares in Italian mutual funds company and life insurer Mediolanum jumped to trade over five percent up on Thursday after an industry source said an announcement due later would involve U.S. Internet brokerage E* Trade <EGRP.O>.

By 1300 GMT, Mediolanum shares were trading 3.21 percent up at 7.62 euros, shortly after trading at a high of 5.9 percent up while the Mib30 blue chip index was 1.39 percent down.

"After denying the possibility of acquiring Banca del Salento, the market was waiting for something linked to the Internet -- now it seems that confirmation of this has arrived," said one dealer.
