Palm has IBM's newest 405 PowerPC ? In 3Com's cross license w/IBM

" "IBM and 3Com have enjoyed a successful business and technology development
relationship for over seven years, including collaborating on the IBM [communications]
hubs, Ethernet LAN switches, PC modems, network interface cards, and IBM's custom
chip development and manufacture for 3Com CoreBuilder products," the companies said.

Also, recently, IBM announced that 3Com would be using the PowerPC 405GP chip to
reduce "system-on-a-chip" design and development time.

IBM's 405GP PowerPC "System On A Chip" 6/21/99 news release :
====
" Using its superstructure design approach, IBM was able to take the
PowerPC 405GP through design and deliver parts to us in a timely basis to
meet our product needs," said Terrel Jones, Director of Hardware
Development at 3Com.

... What's more, if our needs change as our product designs evolve,
IBM can use the 405GP superstructure as a means to rapidly respond."

Runs at 266mz and costs 50% less than previous (AAPL's 1st iMAC?) products . IBM can rapidly change the 405 PowerPC to meet 3Com's "product" requirements .

No mention of a new Palm PowerPC "hand-held" .

So, what does everyone think? Time to buy now or wait and see if it holds above 117.

Ben, what's the max pain point? Have your computations been holding up? Can you actually make a profit following them? Doesn't the point change every day (every minute?) when somebody buys a call or something?

Perplexed.

Also because the "book seller " is just bleeding cash

"LouGerstner painted a rosy picture of
IBM's place in the technology world. He
called soaring Internet companies
"fireflies before the storm" that are "all
stirred up" and "throwing up sparks." Mr. Gerstner suggested that
"maybe one or two of them will be profitable."
Instead, he said the real explosion will occur when businesses
move en masse to transform the way they run their businesses
and communicate with their customers over the Internet. When
this happens, he said, traditional large corporations such as
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Banc One Corp., First Union Corp. and
Ford Motor Co. will be poised to reap the real rewards. And with
its broad hardware, software and services portfolio, IBM will be
the leading company helping customers move to the Internet, Mr.
Gerstner said. "
