Why do you assume he has suddenly lost his mind?

Well I don't think he's lost his mind. I do think that there are some things about impact of technology on the economy and for that matter on the World economy that he really doesn't understand. Not that I do but I think I have an edge over Mr G because I have been a techie for nearly fifty years. I am an addict for technology. So I see things and get enthusiatic about things that most older people, indeed some younger people, think are just plain boring or that I am fantasizing.

So for instance Mr Greenspan said in evidence to congress that he thought it only reasonable to expect that the rate of acceleration in productivity would start to slow sooner or later becuase it is only logical that it should.

But we ought and he ought to focus on a reasonable time scale to consider a statement like that, lets say the next five years. Now I don't think that his statement is true in that time scale. The tech advances that we are gettting almost daily feed the next tech advance and assist its development and what they feed into the economy trasnslates as productivity or as additional GDP. One very good indicator of that for the next few years is the rate of patent filing. This rate has not slowed down.

Sorry for the length. Its not his repeated rantings about stock prices it is his apparent lack of foresight about the benefits of technology in the economy.

Best regards,

L
