I am for the "safety net" version of the welfare state, I am not a libertarian. I meant "gung- ho" as a useful qualification: is the onus on those who want to expand the scope of government, or those who want to limit it? For the most part, if it is on the "expanders", one is a Republican, and if it is on the "limiters", one is a Democrat. Not all of the factions in the Democratic party want precisely the same thing, and there are, indeed, moderates and even conservatives in it, but mostly, it is made up of people who want activist government...
...My only objection is to the use of the term "probably". A theory may change, but if it is well- founded, it is not expected to change, certainly not much beyond refinement...
