OT I was in Buffalo when it had freezing rain too - lot of difference just being on the wrong side of Erie - I was a Hooker in Niagara so know what the winter's were like - was there one yr when they diverted the water to the dam and the Falls froze. I'm an Island boy having born in Victoria which is capital or capitol in Americun. Victoria is at the southern tip of Vancouver Island and actually dips below the 49th parallel into Georgia Strait - guess that's why we have so many fish wars with the USA. I fished all the time as a kid with my Dad up Island in fresh water lakes. Used to catch limit forty trout in a couple of hrs at Buttle Lake b4 Western Mines wrecked everything.
