<<Where do these goofy trades come from anyway? 500 shares @$60 at 16:07 when the price for the only two trades in the previous five minutes (same exchange) was 59 5/8. ???>>

I was wondering the same thing myself and the only explanation I can come up with is that these are trades that were made earlier (amid heavy trading) when the stock was on the way down and only processed at the close.

I've noticed this on other days as well.

What a crazy paint job at the close. Where do these goofy trades come from anyway?

It seems that the after market trades, which may still be on NYSE (though not nec. through the specialist - someone correct me if I am wrong here), do not have to conform to the floor rules (of liquidity and continuity). Here are the last ten trades for the day today:

17:01:55 60.250 2000 NYSE
16:16:32 59.875 500 NYSE
16:07:49 60.000 500 NYSE at Ask
16:05:16 59.625 100 NYSE at Bid
16:03:34 59.625 400 NYSE
16:02:33 59.937 600 NYSE
16:00:37 59.937 19400 NYSE at Ask
16:00:36 59.500 200 Chicago at Bid
16:00:34 59.937 37400 NYSE
16:00:07 59.500 1300 NYSE

And mind you, all the action between 15.50 and 16:00 was in the range 59 - 59.25. Micron always has had some of the wackiest closings of any stock. There is as much substance to micron trading as there is to all these vapor ware internet stuff (G)

Best Regards,

Sridhar
