Ken,
The Wall Street Journal's article about Sun's success with java was great but I was even more impressed by the 3 full page back to back adverising for iPlanet. The ad was a virtual mythology/legend of the birth of Sun, Netscape and AOL and how "they" can take your business along for the journey. I kind of felt a kinship with Star Trek or Star Wars in the way I was carried along on a sort of oddessy. Almost wish I had a business so I could avail myself of their services.

Great advertising.

All the best,
Michael

Since many of Sun's customers are the biggest Corporations in the world, GM, Citibank, Chase Manhattan, American Express, Merril Lynch, ATT and almost all the ISP's and Ebusinesses - Sun is looked too as providing the vision for Internet based computing - Java is the univeral glue or application layer, Jini is a way for all clients to connect to a Java application and ultimately into the Network whose infrastructure Sun provides - thats how Sun makes money on Java - at all 3 layers. This puts Sun at the head of the table as companies look for infrastructure and ebusiness partners - Talk to HP, CPQ or any of the Wintel apologists whove been spending the last 3 years waiting for Win2000 and Merced and trying to get NT to scale beyond 4 cPU's and you get a big blank - they just dont get it..
