CBS MarketWatch Columns Updated: 7/29/99 4:37:12 PM ET Paul Cappuccio, a senior partner at the Washington law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, has been named senior vice president at the online services company (AOL: news, msgs), which finds itself in a legal battle with AT&T (T: news, msgs) and other cable TV systems over access the cable firms' broadband Internet connections. Sheila A. Clark has been the company's acting general counsel. Cappuccio, a Harvard Law School graduate, led Kirkland & Ellis' telecommunications group, whose clients included GTE and Bell Atlantic. Before joining Kirkland & Ellis in 1993, he worked at the Justice Department as an associate deputy attorney general. "Paul is an outstanding legal talent who will be a great addition to the AOL team," said America Online Vice Chairman Kenneth Novac in a statement. Cappuccio clerked for Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy. Shares of America Online ended Thursday lower, falling 3 1/2 to 99 1/2. See Internet Stocks.
